Retirement of DD LaPointe
A message from Jim Faulds: DD LaPointe retired from NBMG as of December 31, 2013. DD had a 33-year-long career with NBMG beginning in 1980. Her contributions are many, but some of the highlights include compiling mining district and prospect data that have been used in many reports, serving as Mackay scholarship chair for 15 years (1996-2011), research on carbon sequestration in Nevada, revising the State Hazard Mitigation Plan, editor of NBMG publications from 2006-2013, and many geological education and outreach activities for K-12 teachers and students.
In the link below, you will find a summary of DD’s contributions through the years. As you can see, DD’s talent for sharing the excitement of geology and science touched a wide range of people—NBMG staff, K-12 and university teachers and students, the geologic community, other state agencies, and the general public of Nevada—and we will all miss DD and her many contributions immensely. We hope that she continues to stay involved in the activities that have been so valuable to the citizens of Nevada.
