The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) seeks applications for a Business and Grants Manager position.  NBMG is a research, public service, and educational unit housed on the UNR campus.  NBMG serves as the state geological survey and provides analysis, information, and data dissemination for Nevada’s geology, natural resources, and geologic hazards. The Business and Grants Manager is responsible for administering the complex financial, administrative and human resources operations of the Bureau in collaboration with and on behalf of the Director with significant discretion, independence, and authority on how to administer the operation efficiently and effectively. The position allocates human capital and other resources accordingly to enhance the services provided by the Bureau and to ensure grant deliverables are met in a strategic and comprehensive fashion. Nearly half of the Bureau’s faculty and staff are partly to fully supported by external grants, and thus careful management of grant funds and related human resources are essential to the operations and obligations of the Bureau. Most of the external grants awarded to the Bureau require strict deadlines, deliverables, and publications, which ensure rapid dissemination of results critical for public safety and/or economic development and diversification for the state. The ideal candidate will recommend which new projects should be added to the workload and recommends funding levels that should be sought in consideration of all resources. The position represents the Bureau and the Director regularly at meetings and to major stakeholders while also marketing the Bureau’s services to build new or enhance existing partnerships. The position manages staff supporting business operations and provides guidance to researchers and other internal sections of the Bureau to maximize the business operation.
